SFI West Bengal State Committee celebrated the 49th anniversary of the foundation its organ, Chhatrasangram, on the 15th of June, 2014 at the auditorium of the Jogesh Chandra Mime Academy, at Kolkata. At this critical juncture in the political scenario of the state and the nation, the students stood strongly by the need for ideological debate and political analysis in organising students movements.
Speaking at the event were Ritabrata Banerjee,the All India General Secretary, Debojyoti Das, the Secretary of West Bengal State Committee, Madhuja SenRoy, the President of West Bengal State Committee and Sougata Ponda, the Editor of Chhatrasangram. Several founding members of Chhatrasangram were present. The state toppers in the level X and level XII board exams were felicitated with the Sudipto Gupta Smriti Purashkar.
Shyamal Chakraborty, veteran leader of the people's movements, delivered the Anil Biswas Memorial Lecture. He spoke on the relevance and application of Marxism in the contemporary scenario, raising questions on how the youth percieved left politics, about the renewed impact of Marxist ideas as financial crises wrecked havoc across the globe. He retold the tale of how the Chhatrasangram had carved for itself a historic role in the student's movement of Bengal. He also outlined the new challenges that the organ of a progressive leftist students organisation had to be equal to in these times. Students filled the huge auditorium making the program a success.
